Wistron Opens $700M Fort Worth Plant to Build NVIDIA AI Superchips

Wistron opened a $700 million, 324,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas to produce NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchips. The plant has created over 500 jobs and uses NVIDIA Omniverse digital twins for pre-production optimization, representing a major step in U.S. AI infrastructure manufacturing.

Wistron has opened its first U.S. manufacturing facility, a 324,000-square-foot plant in Fort Worth, Texas, dedicated to producing the NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip. The facility, designated Wistron D1, currently runs two manufacturing cells and is scaling to produce tens of thousands of boards per month.

The plant represents a $700 million commitment to advanced manufacturing in the United States and has already created over 500 jobs, with plans to expand to 1,000 by year-end. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and Wistron Chairman Simon Lin attended the opening ceremony, where Huang described the system built around the GB300 as "the most powerful AI supercomputer in the world."

The scale of what is being built is striking. Each GB300-based system contains 1.5 million parts, weighs two tons, and costs approximately $4 million. Wistron is producing them at volume, which Huang compared to manufacturing smartphones.

The opening is part of a larger narrative about reindustrialization. Huang framed AI manufacturing as infrastructure on par with agriculture, roads, and railroads. "In the future we'll have AI factories and the internet," he said. "Electricity comes in, and the tokens get generated in the factories."

Wistron engineers used NVIDIA Omniverse to validate assembly line layouts, optimize production processes, and train workers on standard operating procedures virtually before any physical equipment came online. This digital-twin approach allowed the company to debug the factory before it existed.

The Fort Worth plant is one piece of NVIDIA's broader commitment to building AI infrastructure in the United States. The company has stated it plans to invest hundreds of billions in American AI infrastructure over the next several years, and the Wistron facility is among the first concrete projects making that number real.

For Fort Worth and the surrounding region, the plant brings high-skilled manufacturing jobs in fields ranging from electrical work to systems integration. For the broader AI supply chain, it represents a step toward domestic production of the most advanced AI systems, reducing reliance on overseas assembly for critical infrastructure components.

The question now is whether this facility becomes a template. If AI infrastructure is indeed the next foundational layer of the economy, as Huang suggests, then the number of similar plants needed globally will be measured in the dozens, not single digits.
