Samsung's next Galaxy Unpacked event lands today, July 22, at 9 a.m. ET, and based on the leaks circulating beforehand, its next generation of foldable phones is set to be the main event. The company is holding the event in London on an invite-only basis, though anyone can watch from home through Samsung's own site, its YouTube channel, or a livestream embedded across tech outlets covering the event.
The biggest expected reveal is a genuinely new form factor for the Galaxy Z Fold lineup. Leaker Evan Blass has published materials suggesting Samsung is moving to a passport-like shape when the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is folded shut, opening out to an extended display rather than the more conventional book-style fold Samsung has used in recent generations. The leaked specs point to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, dual 50-megapixel wide and ultrawide rear cameras, a 10-megapixel camera shared across both the cover and main screens, and up to 26 hours of video playback on a single charge.
Alongside the redesigned standard model, the same leak points to a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra that keeps the slim, tall profile of the existing Z Fold 7 rather than adopting the new shape, paired with an upgraded 5,000mAh battery said to push video playback up to 27 hours. A Galaxy Z Flip 8 also appeared in the leaked materials, with a 4,300mAh battery and a largely unchanged camera setup: a 10-megapixel front camera alongside 50-megapixel wide and 12-megapixel ultrawide rear lenses.
Wearables are expected to get an update too. Leaks point to a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 that's roughly 12 percent thinner than its predecessor, alongside a larger 800mAh battery and a brighter display reaching up to 5,000 nits. A more conventional Galaxy Watch 9 is also expected, keeping a familiar design while adopting Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite chip.
Smart glasses could make an appearance as well, though likely only as a preview rather than a full launch. Samsung's glasses, developed with design partners Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, are expected to actually ship this fall, so any showing at today's event would most plausibly be a demo rather than a formal unveiling.
Given Samsung's track record of these leaks proving largely accurate in the run-up to past Unpacked events, most of what's expected today should track closely with what's already circulated.
