Samsung's next Galaxy Unpacked event is set for July 23 in London, and the company is expected to unveil the next generation of its foldable phone lineup alongside new wearables and a potential glimpse at its upcoming smartglasses.
The livestream begins at 9 am ET / 6 am PT and will be available on Samsung's official website, its YouTube channel, and through most major tech news outlets. Samsung framed the event around "intelligent capabilities" and "innovative form factors," language that suggests a heavy emphasis on AI integration across the new devices.
The headliners are almost certainly the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8. These would be the eighth generation of Samsung's foldable phones, a category the company has largely defined since the original Galaxy Fold launched in 2019. There are also rumors of a third variant, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, which would offer a wider cover screen and a more tablet-like unfolded aspect ratio than the standard Fold.
On the wearable side, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The Ultra line, introduced last year, targets outdoor athletes and adventurers with a more rugged design and extended battery life compared to the standard Galaxy Watch.
The more speculative part of the lineup involves Samsung's smartglasses project. The company has been working with Google, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster on what it has internally referred to as "Project Moohan." The device is not expected to launch this summer, but Samsung may use the Unpacked stage to show a prototype or announce a timeline. A fall launch would align with the holiday shopping season and give developers time to prepare applications.
Samsung's foldables face more competition than ever. Google's Pixel Fold line, OnePlus's Open, and several Chinese manufacturers have all released credible alternatives in the past year. The Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8 will need to demonstrate meaningful improvements in durability, battery life, and software optimization to justify their premium prices against both rival foldables and increasingly capable traditional slab phones.
The event also carries weight for Samsung's broader AI strategy. Since introducing Galaxy AI earlier this year, the company has been pushing generative AI features across its device lineup. Expect the new foldables and watches to ship with expanded on-device AI capabilities, including real-time translation, generative photo editing, and smarter assistant integration. Whether those features translate into daily utility or remain demo-worthy gimmicks will determine how the market receives the new hardware.
