What changed
Framework has raised the price of 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 modules for its upcoming Laptop 13 Pro by roughly 80 to 90 percent, and is now telling some preorder customers that their memory configuration will be downgraded because its cheaper stock cannot be matched to every order.
The 32GB module now lists at 439. The 64GB module has moved from 1,600. The 16GB module is being held at 1,599, a $100 increase from the original launch price.
Why the supplier walked away
CEO Nirav Patel published the change on Framework's blog under the title Navigating the volatile silicon market. He wrote that the company had budgeted for a low to mid double digit percentage increase in LPCAMM2 costs from Q2 to Q3 of 2026, but the supplier's revised quote came in at more than double the prior inventory price. Absorbing that gap, Patel said, would put Framework's ability to operate at real financial risk.
The hike is not isolated to memory. Intel Core Ultra X7 and X9 chips, Windows licensing, and several AMD Ryzen AI 300 configurations are also more expensive, while 48GB DDR5 modules and certain WD_BLACK SSDs have come down in cost.
What happens to preorders
Framework says the modules it purchased earlier are enough to build one Laptop 13 Pro for every existing preorder, but not enough to honor the exact mix of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB slots that customers configured. Some buyers who picked 32GB or 64GB will be moved down a tier and refunded the difference. Anyone who does not want the new configuration can cancel for a full deposit refund.
For a company built on transparency around upgradeable, repairable hardware, the message is uncomfortable: even a modular laptop vendor with direct customer relationships cannot outmuscle a constrained memory market. Anyone who placed a preorder should check their inbox before assuming the spec they clicked is the spec they will receive.
