Gemini Enterprise Is Google's Bet on AI-Native Workplaces

Google's Gemini Enterprise platform is a separate AI agent toolkit under Google Cloud that lets businesses build and deploy AI assistants across departments. Unlike previous Workspace add-ons, it connects to data across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and SAP, with launch customers including Figma, Klarna, and Virgin Voyages.

Google has been steadily expanding Gemini Enterprise, its comprehensive AI platform for businesses, into what the company describes as "the new front door for AI in the workplace." The platform, which sits under Google Cloud rather than Workspace, is designed to let companies securely create, share, and deploy AI agents across departments ranging from sales and marketing to engineering and finance.

The positioning matters. Previous Google efforts to bring AI into businesses, including the Gemini-branded add-ons for Google Workspace, were essentially feature upgrades to existing productivity suites. Gemini Enterprise is a separate platform with a different architecture: an AI agent toolkit that connects to a worker's data across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, SAP, and other business applications through a central chatbot interface.

The launch customers tell the story of who Google is targeting. Figma, the collaborative design tool, is using Gemini Enterprise to embed AI into creative workflows. Klarna, the buy now, pay later company, is deploying it for customer-facing automation. Gordon Food Service, Macquarie Bank, and Virgin Voyages are all live, with Virgin deploying more than 50 specialized AI agents that can autonomously perform tasks.

The platform includes several components: pre-built Google agents for deep research and data insights; a no-code product that lets non-technical workers analyze information and automate internal processes; and a governance framework that lets administrators visualize, secure, and audit all deployed agents from a single dashboard. For the first time, these agents can access, combine, and analyze information from internal systems and Google AI tools like Code Assist and Deep Research within a single enterprise workflow.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian has framed the platform as a response to a specific enterprise pain point. Most companies have spent the past two years experimenting with generative AI in isolated pilots. A marketing team might use ChatGPT for copywriting, while an engineering team uses GitHub Copilot for coding. What is missing is the connective tissue that lets these AI capabilities talk to each other and to the company's actual data. Gemini Enterprise is Google's attempt to provide that tissue.

The competitive landscape is crowded. Microsoft has Copilot Studio and Azure AI. Amazon has Bedrock and Q. Anthropic and OpenAI both sell directly to enterprises. What Google is betting on is structural advantage: Gemini's native integration with Google Workspace, which hundreds of millions of businesses already use, and the depth of Google's AI research infrastructure, which has produced some of the most capable large language models in the industry.

The risk for Google is execution speed. Enterprise buyers are cautious, and the platform needs to demonstrate that it can deliver measurable productivity gains without creating new security and compliance headaches. If Google can prove that Gemini Enterprise turns AI from a collection of interesting demos into a reliable layer of business infrastructure, it could capture a significant share of the enterprise AI market. If it cannot, the "new front door" will remain closed.
